About my surgery...
Had it done by one of the best in the country, Dr. Anderson in Charlotte. Everything went well. On my way now back to Detroit looking forward to seeing my teammates and beginning my rehab. Thanks for all the well wishes.

Running Hard Every Day
A quote following practice on Monday-- "One very good sign from rookie running back Mikel Leshoure - he runs with his head up. Not all power runners do that. Even when he's hitting the interior of the line and in heavy traffic, his eyes are up and looking. It sounds like a little thing, but it isn't."
That I do. Thank you for noticing Mr. Kowalski.

One Fans Take
Came across this from a loyal Lions fan. Thanks Justin Scott for the positive words.
"As a fan of the Detroit Lions, I was very excited when they traded back up into the second round to take Mikel Leshoure. He is a big and powerful running back that has quick feet for his size. He will be a nice compliment to the Lions' smaller and explosive back Jahvid Best. There are two main reasons that he could be one of the key pieces they acquired from the draft. First, when the Lions have the lead late in the forth quarter, he can pick up key first downs to run out the clock. Secondly, he should be able to pick up the short yardage needed around the goal line or at the first down marker.
I have seen plenty of Lions games were they have lost because they couldn't run out the clock late in games. With Mikel Leshoure's size and quickness he should be able to hit the gaps of a worn out defense late in games. Leshoure was able to take chunks of the field at a time in college with a 6.8 yards per carry average. This average only grows larger on a tired defense. I am sure that his average will not be that great in the NFL but he has shown that he can be a workhorse running back. Also, a key to running out the clock is ball control. In his 461 carries in college, Leshoure has never fumbled the ball. This is one reason why I think he could be key to winning close games.
Secondly, the Lions haven't been a team that converts well on short yardage runs. While I don't think the Lions offensive line has got much better at run blocking, Leshoure's size, power, and quickness should help. As long as the offensive line can get a push he has proven in college he can do the rest. Defenses also will not be able to just key on him running in short yardage because of his pass catching abilities. For his size Leshoure is good on screen and flare passing plays. While I think he could turn into an every down back, he will be a key piece for the Lions in short yardage plays and late in games during his rookie season."

Ready for Big Things in Detroit!
Check out this nice article written about me in Football News Now by Kristopher Fleck. Tell me your thoughts on Sportsbuzz.com
While Nick Fairley was the Lions highest draft pick in April's NFL Draft, Tim Twentyman of the Detroit News thinks that Lions rookie running back Mikel LeShoure may have the biggest impact of all the rookies on the Lions roster this season.
Twentyman says that LeShoure is likely to become a fan favorite in short order. He's a fun-loving, laid back individual on the sidelines, but between the tackles, he's a hard runner with powerful strides and the ability to break tackles.
LeShoure told Twentyman that he's spent some time with Matthew Stafford and just wants to finally get his hands on a playbook and start to learn the intricacies of the Lions offense. Until that time, he's trying to learn as much as he can and trying to keep himself in "football" shape.
"You don't want to go home and go back to where you're comfortable and just not do anything and by the time things clear up and we're ready to play ball again, you're not ready," he said. "The No. 1 thing is to stay in some type of shape and keep active in some type of way and just be in the best shape of your ability."

Growing Up in Champaign, IL - "My Family"
Life in Champaign wasn't always easy. My parents were incarcerated when I was younger and my aunt Rhonda took me in. I couldn't get all the things I wanted but at least I had a roof over my head.
