You've to Save Him, You've to Save Mohammed Shami, Says Ravi Shastri

The Indian cricket team is heading for a busy season. Most of their players are currently engaged in the ongoing ODI series against Australia. Furthermore, they will also be heading into a brand new edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) where they will be featuring for the various IPL franchisees.

Moreover, the team is also heading into the 2023 ODI World Cup which is set to begin on October 5. Not to mention that India needs to win the tournament at all cost here. They had won the Cup in 2011 when the last time this tournament was held in the subcontinent.

Meanwhile, they won the ICC Champions Trophy 2013 when under MS Dhoni, India went onto beat England in the finals. Since then a long drought of ICC events had ensued. Even in 2022, Rohit Sharma led India failed to win the trophy.

Former Head Coach Ravi Shastri said that India will have to manage their pacers efficiently. Especially Mohammed Shami.

“I would want him to be part of setup. You also have to see how he's coming along. The team management would be watching. There's also a right time to blood the youngster across formats. Classic example is Moammed Siraj. It was the same with him, when he got opportunity, exposure, he's become almost a certainty across all formats,” Shastri said during a press conference on the sidelines of the Legends League Cricket in Qatar.

“You've to save him, you've to save Shami. Agar teeno format ye khelnege, toh gadbad hogi (If they play all three formats, it would be trouble). In formats where Shami and Siraj don't play, give chance to Umran. Everyone should be ready. You're keeping everyone ready. For example, Bumrah is now injured, you've got replacements. That's very important. He will always be in mix,” Shastri further said.
