In a big breaking news development, Bangladesh's senior wicket-keeper batsman Mushfiqur Rahim will not be available for selection in the upcoming Super 4 clash of the ongoing Asia Cup 2023. The Bangladeshi team will be playing their third game in the Super 4 stage of the 50-overs subcontinental tournament against India scheduled to take place on 15 September, 2023 at the R.Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. Bangladesh have already been knocked out of the competition after poor back-to-back losses against Pakistan and Sri Lanka.
Mushfiqur Rahim to miss Asia Cup 2023 match against India
The Bangladeshi team have suffered a huge blow as their premier wicket-keeper batsman Mushfiqur Rahim will be missing the upcoming match of the Asia Cup 2023 against India starting on Friday. Incidentally, he became a father for the second time as his wife Jannatul Kifayat recently gave birth to a girl child on 11 September, 2023. Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) Cricket Operations Committee Chairman Jalal Yunus confirmed that Musfiqur has requested to be with his wife who is still recovering and newborn child.
"Mushfiqur told us that his wife is still recovering, he needs to be by his wife and child now. We fully understand his situation, so we have allowed him not to play this match," said BCB Cricket Operations Committee chairman Jalal Yunus
Earlier in the Asia Cup 2023, Mushfiqur Rahim smashed a fine knock of 64 runs off 87 deliveries that included five boundaries but Bangladesh eventually suffered a disappointing 7-wicket defeat during that match against Pakistan. The Bangladesh team also ended up conceding a poor 21-run loss at the hands of hosts Sri Lanka that knocked them out of the 50-overs tournament.
In the absence of Mushfiqur Rahim, it is very much likely that Litton Das will be donning the wicket-keeping gloves during the upcoming Super 4 game against India on 15 September, 2023. Bangladesh also have the option to bring in wicket-keeper batsman Anamul Haque in the playing XI during the next match. On the other hand, India have already booked a place in the Asia Cup 2023 final after they defeated Sri Lanka by 41 runs on Tuesday.
