Pakistan won the 1st T20I clash of their 2022 New Zealand Tri-series against Bangladesh.

The 1st T20I clash between Pakistan and Bangladesh of the 2022 New Zealand T20I tri-series concluded with a 21-run victory for Pakistan. The match took place at the Hagley Oval in New Zealand where Bangladesh won the toss and decided to bowl first. However, their decision to field first did not benefit them as the Shaheens put up an above-average score of 168 for Bangladesh to chase.

Courtesy of another excellent inning from the current best T20I batsman in the world, Mohammad Rizwan smashed an unbeaten 78-run knock-off 50 balls to provide Pakistan with the confidence required to give the Bangladeshi bowlers a tough time. Taskin Ahmed’s figures of 2/25 (4) were the best from Bangladesh’s bowling department. Mehidy Hasan and Nasum Ahmed also went on to pick up 1 wicket each for the Tigers.

Bangladesh’s batsmen could not achieve their objective of reaching the target as they were restricted to 146/8 after 20 overs by the Pakistani bowlers. Mohammad Wasim (3/24), Mohammad Nawaz (2/25), and Shahnawaz Dahani (1/24) were Pakistan’s top bowlers today. Although Bangladesh suffered a defeat, Yasir Ali’s stunning unbeaten 42-run knockoff of 21 balls was worth commending. Much to the dismay of Bangladesh, Ali’s excellent innings went in vain as Pakistan emerged victorious by 21 runs.

The next T20I clash of the tri-series is scheduled to take place tomorrow at the same venue where New Zealand will lock horns with Pakistan at 11:30 am IST.
