Captain Prithvi Shaw’s 47-run strike and Yashasvi Jaiswal’s fiery 78 at the top of the order guided Mumbai to a total of 248/5 on Day 1 of the Ranji Trophy final clash against Madhya Pradesh. The latter side grabbed 5 wickets on the first day in Bengaluru with Saransh Jain and Anubhav Agarwal picking up some wickets for their side.
As for Mumbai’s batsmen, Sarfaraz Khan (40* off 125) and Shamz Mulani (11* off 42) stood firm for Mumbai by the time the play came to a close. Talking about Mumbai’s batting order, thanks to Yashasvi Jaiswal’s blazing 78 that gave his side the confidence to start the game on a positive note. Although he played impressive innings, Jaiswal was unable to get a century in the competition. He was dismissed by Anubhav Agarwal today and had to walk back to the pavilion without a hundred.
Mumbai elected to bat upon winning the toss and will look to clinch the Ranji title for a record-extending 42nd time. On the other hand, Madhya Pradesh are eyeing their first-ever title, having last featured in a Ranji Trophy final back in the 1998-1999 season. MP defeated Bengal in the semi-finals of the competition to pave their way into the final, while Mumbai drew against Uttar Pradesh in the second semi-final, entering the final by virtue of first-innings lead.
