England spinner Sophie Ecclestone fell in love with the game quite early. Born in Cheshire, she played Football as well but found her calling in Cricket.  She was seven years old when she started to receive training from her brother James and soon made her debut alongside him in the school cricket team. Having a father who was a sports coordinator also helped.

In 2016, she was fast-tracked into the England Academy Squad and went on her first tour abroad to Sri Lanka where she went onto pick 16 wickets in the tri-series featuring Australia A and Sri Lanka A. In the following months she went onto make her England debut.

In 2017, she was also in the reckoning for the ICC Cricket World Cup, but made her education priority which meant that she would be giving her exams even as her team competed in the multi-nation tournament.

Since then, she has been a regular feature in the squad, making her Test debut for England in November 2017 against arch-rivals Australia. Later that year the England Cricket Board (ECB), handed her the central contracts and she repaid the faith shown in him by becoming the fastest women cricketer to complete 50 T20I wickets which she did in just 34 matches.

Her height is perhaps her biggest advantage which help her extract sharp bounce. In her career, she has already accounted for more than 200 wickets in white-ball formats making her one of the top contenders going into the WPL 2023 Auctions.

The 23-year-old is expected to play a key role in the upcoming tournament where she was bought by UP Warriorz for INR 1.8 Cr. She is expected to play the role of a spin bowling all-rounder to perfection alongside captain Deepti Sharma who is another top all-rounder in the squad.

The current top-ranked T20I bowler, Ecclestone can extract sharp turn and bounce on the turning pitches in India. Moreover, she can also act as a handy bowler in the lower middle order.
