Chennai Super Kings have made it to the IPL 2023 play-offs after 2 years. They won the competition back in 2021 under the leadership of MS Dhoni, and were unable to make it to the play-offs last year when MS Dhoni had decided to step down as captain. The captaincy position was handed over to Ravindra Jadeja last year and CSK finished 9th on the points table with 8 points.
But this year, MS Dhoni returned as captain and made sure that his side finished in the top 4 on the points table, eventually qualifying for the play-offs. CSK is currently in 2nd position on the points table, and is all set to take on defending champs Gujarat Titans at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Tuesday, 23rd May, 2023.
Here’s taking a look at CSK’s journey to the play-offs for IPL 2023.
Chennai Super Kings: Journey To IPL 2023 Play-Offs
CSK started off the IPL season by taking on the defending champions Gujarat Titans at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Gujarat, which was also the first match of the season. They lost that match to GT by 5 wickets with 4 balls remaining. After that match, CSK took on LSG and MI, bagging wins against both the teams respectively.
After suffering a defeat at the hands of GT, the MS Dhoni-led side then lost to RR, following which they won against RCB, SRH and KKR. After three back-to-back wins, CSK lost two consecutive matches to RR and Punjab Kings, followed by a match against LSG which had no result. CSK then won against MI and DC, after which they lost to KKR at home, but managed a win against DC to make it to the play-offs for this season.
CSK will now take on GT at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, Gujarat for Qualifier 1. What now remains to be seen is whether MS Dhoni and co. can defeat the defending champs and clinch the trophy for a record 5th time.
